After Strong Summer Storms, Check the Roofline

After Strong Summer Storms, Check the Roofline
North and central Georgia are in the kind of summer pattern where a quiet morning can turn into heat, heavy rain, lightning, and a strong afternoon storm.
The National Weather Service Atlanta/Peachtree City outlook for July 2 noted scattered thunderstorms expected this afternoon and early evening, with several storms possibly strong to severe. That does not mean every home has damage. It does mean homeowners should pay attention after the weather moves through.
Start with the roofline and the places water likes to find.
Look at gutters, downspouts, fascia, soffits, roof edges, pipe boots, flashing, and the siding or trim around upstairs windows. You are not trying to diagnose the whole house from the yard. You are looking for changes that were not there before the storm.
A few simple checks can help:
Walk the outside from the ground after it is safe.
Look for loose gutter sections, new dents, scattered shingle granules, missing shingles, lifted trim, or debris sitting against the roofline.
Check ceilings and upper walls over the next day or two for a new stain, drip, bubble, or soft spot.
Take wide photos and close-up photos before anyone cleans up, paints, seals, replaces parts, or throws away damaged material.
Save the date and time of the storm, any repair notes, and any insurance explanation you receive.
Not every storm concern should become a claim. Sometimes it is maintenance. Sometimes the repair is small. Sometimes the deductible makes filing a poor decision.
But guessing can be expensive in both directions. Filing too soon can create a claim that does not make sense. Waiting too long or repairing too quickly can make it harder to show what changed.
Covenant Claim Group can inspect the visible concern, review photos and repair information, and help you understand whether it looks like routine maintenance or something worth documenting before you file, repair, or accept an insurance answer.
If today’s weather leaves you wondering whether the roofline, gutters, or an interior stain should be checked, get a second set of eyes.
