What To Save Before Repairs Start
A repair crew may be ready to start before a Georgia homeowner has had time to sort out the insurance side. That can be a problem when damaged materials, wet flooring, broken trim, or stained drywall get removed before anyone documents what happened.
Repairs matter. So does preserving the proof of what needed repair in the first place.

Save The Photos Before The Room Changes
Take wide photos that show the room or exterior area, then take closer photos of the damaged material. If water, smoke, impact damage, or tear-out is involved, photograph the area from more than one angle. Save the date and keep the photos together instead of scattering them across text messages, contractor apps, and camera rolls.
Do not rely only on the final repair invoice. The invoice may show what was done, but it may not show why the work was needed.
Keep The Removed Materials Long Enough To Ask Questions
If flooring, drywall, trim, cabinets, shingles, siding, or insulation are being removed, ask whether photos should be taken before those materials leave the property. For water damage, mitigation photos and moisture readings can matter. For fire or smoke, cleaning notes, odor concerns, and affected rooms away from the flame may matter too.
The point is not to slow down emergency work. The point is to avoid losing the details that explain the damage after the jobsite is cleaned up.
Put The Paperwork In One Place
Keep the insurance estimate, contractor estimate, invoices, dry-out records, photos, emails, carrier letters, and any repair notes in one folder. If a contractor says more work is needed than the insurance estimate includes, ask what photos, measurements, or site conditions support that difference.
A clean set of records helps separate covered damage questions from upgrades, maintenance items, pricing differences, and work that was not documented clearly enough the first time.
Call Before The Decision Gets Expensive
If you are about to approve repairs, throw away damaged materials, or close a claim while questions remain, get another set of eyes on the damage and paperwork first.
Covenant Claim Group LLC helps Georgia homeowners inspect property damage, organize claim documentation, and understand what questions to ask before repair work changes the evidence. Call 470-676-4008 or email info@covenantclaims.net before cleanup or repairs make the next step harder to prove.
