Before Permanent Repairs Cover The Damage
A tarp, patch, board-up, or emergency repair can be the right move when the home needs protection. The problem is what happens next. Once that temporary work is in place, the carrier may not see the same damage the homeowner saw on day one.
That does not mean the repair was wrong. It means the proof needs to be organized before permanent work starts.

Start with the photos from before the temporary repair. Save wide photos of the area, close photos of the damage, and any pictures that show water entry, missing material, broken material, staining, debris, or exposed openings. If a contractor, roofer, mitigation company, or emergency repair crew took photos, ask for copies.
Then save the paperwork tied to the temporary work. That can include the invoice, receipt, work authorization, contractor notes, emails, text messages, and any explanation of what was covered, patched, removed, dried, or protected.
Compare those records against the carrier estimate. Look for simple gaps:
– Does the estimate mention the same area that was tarped or patched?
– Does it account for the temporary repair cost?
– Does it describe the damaged material that was covered or removed?
– Does it include only a small spot repair when the protected area was larger?
– Does it leave out interior damage that showed up before the repair?
The goal is not to turn every temporary repair into a fight. The goal is to make sure the estimate is based on what happened at the house, not only on what was visible after the area was covered.
Permanent repairs can make the review harder. Once roofing, siding, drywall, flooring, trim, cabinets, or other material is replaced, the original condition may be gone. That is why the before photos, temporary repair invoice, contractor notes, and carrier estimate should be reviewed together.
Covenant Claim Group LLC can inspect the damage, review the carrier estimate, compare it with the temporary repair records, and help document covered damage that may be missing or underpaid.
