What Bent Outdoor AC Coil Fins May Mean After Recent Storms
An outdoor air-conditioning unit can keep running even when hail has bent or flattened patches of the thin fins around its condenser coil. High winds can cause a different kind of damage by shifting the unit or driving branches and other debris into it.
Those marks do not prove that the roof is damaged, and they do not automatically mean a homeowner should file a claim. They are one piece of the property condition. A useful inspection should determine whether the fin damage or debris impact is recent, whether similar conditions appear elsewhere, and whether the property has storm damage at all.

Start with safe photos before anything is straightened, cleaned, or repaired. Take one wide photo showing the unit, its base, and where it sits beside the home. Then photograph all four sides and close views of any bent or flattened fin patterns, lodged debris, cabinet impact, shifted base, or damaged lines.
Do not open the cabinet, reach through the fan guard, touch electrical components, or try to straighten the fins yourself. If the unit is making a new noise, not cooling properly, leaking, shifted out of position, or surrounded by damaged wiring or debris, keep a safe distance and contact a qualified HVAC professional.
Then look for a pattern from the ground. Hail can bend or flatten condenser fins, dent exposed metal, and damage window screens. High winds can loosen or move exterior components and drive debris into siding, trim, fences, garage doors, and other exposed surfaces. Photograph the whole side of the property first, followed by closer details you can capture safely. Do not climb onto the roof.
Age, yard equipment, prior service work, pets, landscaping, and ordinary wear can create marks that look similar. Dates, wide photos, prior service records, and before-and-after images help separate an old condition from a recent one. That distinction matters before a contractor changes the evidence or a claim decision is made.
Covenant Claim Group represents homeowners and does not sell or install roofs. We inspect the property to determine whether storm-related damage appears to be present, whether more documentation is needed, or whether there may be no claim to pursue. When covered damage exists, we document it, review the policy and carrier estimate, and address missing or underpaid covered items with the carrier.
If recent storms came through your area, send Covenant Claim Group photos of the outdoor unit and schedule an inspection before repairs or a claim decision by calling or texting 470-676-4008 or emailing info@covenantclaims.net.
