A New Adjuster Took Over. Keep the Open Questions Moving.
You finally know which estimate everyone is discussing. Then a different adjuster calls and asks you to explain the claim again. A short handoff can help the next conversation begin with the unresolved issue instead of a fresh retelling of every event.
Start with the current decision, not the entire history
Write down the question you need answered now. Name the document and date connected to it, the supporting record, and what you are asking the insurer to clarify. Keep this summary separate from the original messages. The NAIC advises keeping claim paperwork; a handoff sheet is an index to that paperwork, not a substitute for it.
For example, an open question might concern a room listed in the inspection notes but absent from the current estimate. Identify the room, the estimate version and the relevant inspection page. Avoid saying that the previous adjuster approved the work unless you have a record that actually says that.
Confirm who is handling each next step
Ask the insurer to confirm the new contact’s name, role and preferred submission method through a channel you already trust. Ask whether that person is handling the whole claim or only a particular part. The person arranging an inspection may not be the person answering a coverage question.
A practical handoff can use four columns: open question, supporting document, person handling it and next action. Enter a completion date only when someone actually supplied it. A date you hope to receive an answer is different from a written commitment or a policy deadline.
Separate a new contact from a new decision
A reassignment alone does not show that a prior decision changed. If the new adjuster gives a different answer, ask whether the insurer is changing its position and request the current explanation in writing. Keep both versions so you can identify the precise difference. Do not replace an earlier message with your recollection of a later call.
The Oklahoma attorney general alleged improper wind and hail claim handling in a June 24, 2026 filing. State Farm disputed the allegations in an earlier statement dated March 12. Those dated positions do not establish misconduct in another homeowner’s claim. They reinforce why the actual written record matters more than assumptions about who is now assigned.
Finish with one answerable request
Send the short summary through the agreed channel and ask which open item will be reviewed next and whether anything specific is missing. Keep private claim details out of public comments. Continue to follow actual written requests and policy requirements while the contact change is being sorted out.
Covenant Claim Group can help organize the property records and outstanding questions so a handoff does not obscure the issue you need addressed. A clearer file supports a better conversation; it does not determine coverage or the amount payable.
