Fallen Limb on the Roof? Take a Look Before Cleanup Moves Too Fast
A limb on the roof can make everybody want to move fast.
That makes sense. You want the branch off the house. You want the gutter cleared. You want the yard cleaned up before it turns into a bigger mess.
Just do not let cleanup move so fast that nobody knows what was actually damaged.
Sometimes a fallen limb only leaves leaves, twigs, and a few scratches. Sometimes it bends a gutter, cracks a shingle, dents flashing, loosens trim, or leaves a small roof puncture that is easy to miss from the ground.
Before everything is hauled away, Georgia homeowners can slow down for a few simple checks.
Take photos from a safe distance. Get the limb, the roof edge, the gutter, the downspout, the siding below it, and the area where the branch came from if it is visible. Do not climb on the roof if it is not safe.
Look for changes around the roof edge. A gutter that looks lower than normal, a new gap at the fascia, loose trim, or fresh granules near the downspout can be worth documenting.
Check inside the home too. If the limb hit near an attic, ceiling, exterior wall, or window, look for new stains, damp spots, cracking, or a musty smell over the next few days.
Save repair notes and cleanup receipts. If a tree company, roofer, handyman, or mitigation company comes out, keep what they give you. A quick invoice or text message can matter later if the damage turns out to be more than cleanup.
Do not assume it has to be a claim. Some limb cleanup is routine maintenance. Some damage is small enough that filing would not make sense. Some issues may be below the deductible.
The important part is knowing that before the proof is gone.
Covenant Claim Group can inspect the visible concern, look at the photos and repair notes, and help you understand whether it looks like normal cleanup or something worth documenting before you decide what to do next.
No pressure to file if the facts do not support it. If a limb hit the roof, gutter, siding, or trim and you want peace of mind before cleanup or repair gets too far along, schedule an inspection with Covenant Claim Group.
