Waiting On Recoverable Depreciation After Repairs?

A Georgia homeowner can finish the repair work and still wonder why the insurance payment does not feel finished.

One common reason is recoverable depreciation. The first check may not include every dollar shown on the estimate. Some money may be held back until the carrier receives proof that covered repairs were completed.

That does not mean the claim is automatically wrong. It does mean the paperwork needs to be clean.

Before you assume the final payment is coming on its own, gather the documents that show what was repaired, who did the work, what materials were used, and what changed from the original estimate. A final invoice can help, but photos, signed work authorization, receipts, completion notes, and any supplement or scope change can matter too.

If a contractor repaired more than the insurance estimate listed, keep the reason for that difference. Save photos of the damaged area before and after repairs, measurements, material notes, and any message where the contractor explains why extra work was needed.

Also check whether your policy is replacement cost or actual cash value. Those terms affect whether depreciation is recoverable at all, how much may be held back, and what proof the carrier may ask for before releasing another payment.

Covenant Claim Group LLC helps Georgia homeowners inspect property damage, organize claim documentation, and review the questions that come up when the first payment, repair invoice, and final insurance payment do not line up.
